Sweet Potato and Apple Mash

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium-sized sweet potato, peeled and diced

  • 1 small apple, peeled, cored, and diced

  • 1/2 cup water or homemade vegetable broth (low-sodium)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Peel and dice the sweet potato into small cubes.

  • Peel, core, and dice the apple.

  1. Steam the Vegetables:

  • Place the sweet potato and apple pieces in a steamer basket over a pot of boiling water.

  • Steam for about 10-15 minutes or until the sweet potatoes are tender and can be easily mashed with a fork.

  1. Mash and Blend:

  • Transfer the steamed sweet potatoes and apples to a bowl.

  • Mash the ingredients using a fork or potato masher for a chunkier texture, or use a blender/food processor for a smoother consistency.

  • Add water or homemade vegetable broth gradually until you achieve the desired consistency for your baby.

  1. Serve:

  • Allow the mixture to cool to a suitable temperature before serving to your baby.

  • You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for extra flavor (optional).

  • If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days, or you can freeze portions for later use.

  • Sweet potatoes are rich in vitamins A and C, providing essential antioxidants and promoting healthy skin and eyes.

  • Apples add natural sweetness and contribute dietary fiber, aiding in digestion.
